Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Do I need design experience to use the Card Designer?

No! The Card Designer is built for church administrators, not professional designers. Templates and intuitive tools make it easy to create professional cards.

Can I use the Card Designer on a tablet?

Yes! The Card Designer works on tablets with minimum screen width of 768px (iPad and most Android tablets).

How long does it take to create a card design?

Using a template, you can create a basic design in 10-15 minutes. Custom designs from scratch may take 30-60 minutes.

Design Questions

What card size should I use?

CR80 (85.6mm × 53.98mm) is the standard credit card size and works with most card printers. Use this unless you have specific requirements.

Should I use portrait or landscape orientation?

Portrait is more common for ID cards and fits standard card holders. Landscape works well for badges or special-purpose cards.

Can I create dual-sided cards?

Yes! Select "Dual-sided" when creating a new design. You can switch between front and back using the page navigation at the bottom.

QR Codes & Barcodes

What's the difference between QR codes and barcodes?

QR codes are 2D and can store more data. Barcodes are 1D and simpler. QR codes work with smartphone cameras; barcodes need dedicated scanners.

What data is encoded in the QR code?

Member ID, name, church name, membership type, status, join date, and expiry date (if applicable).

Why won't my QR code scan?

Ensure it's at least 20mm × 20mm, has high contrast (black on white), and adequate white space around it. Test with multiple scanner apps.

Exporting

What format should I use for printing?

PDF with CMYK color profile, 300 DPI, and 3mm bleed. This is the industry standard for professional printing.

Should I include bleed margins?

Yes, if sending to a professional printer. Bleed prevents white edges after cutting. Not needed for home printing.

How long does batch export take?

Approximately 1-2 minutes per 100 cards, depending on design complexity and server load.

Troubleshooting

Why is my design not saving?

Check your internet connection and verify you have edit permissions. Try manual save (Ctrl+S).

Why do colors look different when printed?

Screens use RGB; printers use CMYK. Always export with CMYK profile for printing and request a color proof.

Why is the interface slow?

Close other browser tabs, clear cache, or try a different browser. Complex designs with many elements may also slow performance.
